Transdev John Holland pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served
and sacrificed for our country. As an organisation whose workforce includes and historically
public transport employed, a significant contingent of veterans, we express our immense
gratitude, reflect and pay tribute to those who’ve fought in conflicts, preserving the freedoms
we enjoy today.
Randwick Depot Service Delivery Manager, Rick Sciarrone shared how public transport in
Sydney has a great ANZAC history.
“At the end of WW2 our returning men and women were given jobs as bus operators or
conductors in Sydney which formed the Public Transport Commission (PTC) of NSW”, said
Rick.
“Many of our staff at that time were sent to war and did not return home which until today,
has not been lost on the majority of our staff as without their sacrifice, our lives would not be
as wonderful as it is today.”
Staff member and veteran, Alec Alexandrou, presented a wreath at Waverley’s ANZAC
service. The Depot Administrator served in the Australian Army in the Vietnam War and in
Cyprus.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget
